What do you see?

The New DNS screen allows you to request new domain name hosting for your Internet Port,   PRN(Private Routed Network), or Enhanced Port services.  Domain name hosting, called DNS(Domain Name Service - A service developed to facilitate the use of Internet applications such as Web browsing, email, and other programs by assigning easily remembered names to IP addresses.), allows you to associate an easily-remembered fully-qualified domain names(Computers use IP addresses such as 205.171.9.242 to locate resources on the Internet.  However, since people prefer to use simple names to long numbers, a "human-friendly" system using fully-qualified domain names was developed. DNS works by resolving fully-qualified domain names, such as www.qwest.net or mail.qwest.net, to a specific IP address.  Fully qualified domain names are also referred to as FQDNs.) with your IP address(es).

• Fields and buttons - Primary and Secondary DNS

  Field	Description
  Type of Product	This drop-down list allows you to select the kind of service for which you want new domain names.  Your options are: Internet Port(Provides customer locations with connectivity to the Internet.) PRN(Private Routed Network - This product enables customers to build a secure, feature rich, wide area network. Customers can seamlessly integrate Internet Access, network-based firewalls, and encryption to their WAN.) Enhanced Port(Provides all of the functionality of both an Internet Port and a PRN Port in a consolidated communications solution.)
  Choose the set of Name Servers applicable to your DNS service	These radio buttons allow you to select the DNS servers you want to use for your new domain name hosting service.
  How many Domain Names?	This field allows you to type the number of domain names you want hosted.
  	Click this button to refresh your browser window.  When you click this button, the system saves the number of domain names you want and refreshes your window.
  Indicate Domain Name Service(s) you want...for this domain	These radio buttons allow you to indicate whether you want both Primary and Secondary DNS, or Secondary only.   Note:  When you change this selection, the system refreshes your browser window, displaying the fields appropriate to your selection.
  Domain Name	These fields allow you to type the fully-qualified domain names you want to associate with your IP address.
  Primary Server Hostname	This field displays the name assigned to the primary DNS server for your new domain name.
  Primary Server Netaddress	This field displays the IP address of the primary DNS server for your new domain name.
  Secondary Server Hostname	These fields display the name assigned to the secondary DNS servers for your new domain name.
  Secondary Server Netaddress	These fields display the IP address of the secondary DNS server for your new domain name.
  How many mail exchange (MX) records?	This field allows you to type the total number of mail exchange records for your new domain name.
  	If you changed the number of mail exchange records, click this button to refresh your browser window.  When you click this button, the system refreshes your browser window, displaying fields that allow you to identify the mail exchange servers.
  MX host name	These fields allow you to type the name(s) of the mail exchange server(s) for your new domain name.
  MX Preference (0-999)	These fields allow you to indicate the order in which the domain name server will use your mail exchange servers.
  How many Host Name records?	This field allows you to type the number of host name records you want to associate with your new domain name.
  	If you changed the number of mail Host Name records, click this button to refresh your browser window.  When you click this button, the system refreshes your browser window, displaying fields that allow you to identify the Host Names.
  Host Name	This field allows you to type the name(s) you want associated with the hosts for your domain name.
  Resource Record Type	This field allows you to indicate the kind of resource the host(s) are for your domain name.  Your options are A or C.
  Record Argument	This field allows you to type the argument(s) accepted for the host(s).     Note:  If you typed a Resource Record Type of A, this value will be IP Address.  If you typed a Record Type of C, this value will be CNAME.
  Add Additional Comments	This field allows you to type any additional information you want to associate with your domain name.  Please provide as much information as possible to facilitate configuration of your domain name.
  	Click this button to submit your new DNS request.  When you click this button, the system saves your information, then notifies you that your request has been submitted.

   

• Fields and button - Secondary DNS only

  Field	Description
