Modifying Existing DNS

 


Procedure

Follow the steps below to make changes to your DNS:

 

Step

Action

From the DNS menu under the IP Management tab, click Modify DNS.

 

Result:  The system takes you to the Customer Information screen.

From the New or Existing Service? radio buttons, select whether you want to edit the DNS for a new service or an existing service.

 

Result:  The system refreshes your browser window, displaying fields appropriate for your selection.

Verify that the information in the First Name, Last Name, Phone, and Customer Technical Contact E-mail Address fields is correct.  Update the fields as necessary.

Are you modifying DNS for a new or existing service?

If you want to modify DNS for...

Then...

An existing service

In the Circuit ID field, type the unique identifier of the circuit for which you want to modify the DNS.

A new service

  1. In the Sales Engineer E-mail Address field, type the email address at which you reach your Sales Engineer.

  2. In the Sales Representative E-mail Address field, type the email address at which you reach your Sales Rep.

  3. In the CORE Sales Order Number field, type the CORE Sales Order identifier you received from Qwest when you ordered your service.

Click btn_newnext.gif.

 

Result:  The Modify DNS screen appears.

From the Type of Service drop-down list, choose the service for which you are modifying DNS.

From the Choose the set of Name Servers applicable to your DNS service radio buttons, select the name servers your DNS currently uses.

 

Result:  The system refreshes your browser window, displaying additional fields to define your DNS.

From the Indicate Domain Name Service(s) you want Qwest to provide for this domain radio buttons, select whether you want both primary and secondary DNS, or secondary DNS only.

 

Result:  The system refreshes your browser window, displaying the fields appropriate to your selection.

Depending on your selection in Step 8, take one of the following actions:

 

If you selected...

Then...

Primary and Secondary

  1. In the How many Domain Names? field, type the total number of domain names you will need mapped to your IP address(es), then click btn_update.gif.

    Result:
     The system refreshes your browser window, displaying the appropriate number of Domain Name fields.

  2. In the numbered Domain Name fields, type the fully qualified domain names for which you need DNS.

  3. In the How many mail exchange (MX) records field, type the total number of mail exchange servers for which you need DNS, then click btn_update.gif.

    Result:
     The system refreshes your browser window, displaying the appropriate number of host name and preference fields.

  4. In the MX Host Name fields, type the identifiers used for each mail server.

  5. In the MX Preference fields, type the appropriate value to indicate each server's priority.

  6. In the How many Host Name records field, type the total number of host servers for which you need DNS, then click btn_update.gif.

    Result:
     The system refreshes your browser window, displaying the appropriate number of host name and record type fields.

  7. In the Host Name fields, type the unique identifier for each server requiring DNS.

  8. In the Resource Record Type fields, type the appropriate value for each host.

  9. In the Record Argument field, type the appropriate value for each host.

Secondary Only

  1. In the Fully Qualified Domain Name field, type your primary name server's unique fully qualified domain name.

  2. In the IP Address field, type the IP address of your primary name server.

In the Add Additional Comments box, type any more information that will help us configure your DNS.

Click btn_newsubmit.gif.

 

Result:  The system attempts to save your data, then refreshes your browser window.  A message appears, indicating the success or failure of your submission.
